Golf Course Grass Seed

Bring the performance of our Masters turf to your own greens, tees, and fairways with Inturf Masters grass seed. This premium seed mix, made from a 100% fescue blend, is ideal for golf courses, ornamental lawns, bowling greens, and landscaped areas that demand a refined finish. The result is a professional-grade surface that combines exceptional aesthetics with proven practicality.

Whether you’re establishing new tees, renovating fairways, or improving shaded areas, Masters grass seed allows you to grow and maintain a surface that looks pristine and is suited to a variety of golfing areas.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Fine-textured finish for a smooth ball roll and premium appearance
  • Slow-growing and low-maintenance – requires less mowing and input
  • Chewings fescue and hard fescue are particularly drought-tolerant with a deep fine root system
  • Performs well in shaded conditions such as under trees or near buildings
  • Produces a dense, uniform sward with a rich green colour
  • Ideal for tees, fairways, surrounds, ornamental lawns and low-input areas

Engineered for Playability

Our golf course grass seed is crafted from a carefully selected 100% fescue blend, designed to deliver a fine, dense sward ideal for use on tees, fairways, and surrounds. The typical seed mix includes 45% slender creeping red fescue, 45% chewings fescue, and 10% hard fescue, a well-established combination used across professional turf settings.

Thanks to the fine-leaved nature of these grasses, the finished surface offers a rich, green colour and uniform texture. The slower growth rate means less mowing, while the natural growth habit lends itself to a clean, manicured appearance with minimal input. This is perfect for high-specification areas where presentation matters such as golf courses, bowling greens, tennis courts and professional lawns.

Chewings fescue and hard fescue in particular are known for their drought tolerance, with fine, deep root systems that can continue to draw moisture during dry spells, an advantage in areas with limited irrigation or hosepipe restrictions. Their natural adaptability also makes them a smart choice for shaded areas, such as under trees or close to buildings, where other grass types may struggle.

Masters 100% Fescue Grass Seed is engineered for optimal density and the finest leaf expected of a high-quality grass, containing a good colour and resilience. Ideal for diverse climates, precision mowing and sustainable maintenance strategies.

CHARACTERISTICS
Masters 100% Fescue gives a dense, consistent sward, with the fineness of leaf expected of a high quality turfgrass. Slender creeping red fescue has a good colour during the summer, autumn and early winter. It also has excellent salt tolerance and a rhizomatous growth habit. Chewings fescue has better colour during late winter and spring. Combining the two subspecies provides better colour for longer hence why the two grasses are chosen together.

MOWING
Fescues can be mown as low as 5mm with a well adjusted cylinder mower. For greens we recommend 5-8mm. For tees we recommend 10-12mm. In general, the longer the grass, the better the turf can cope with wear and tear. For bunker tops this turf is often left to grow without mowing to achieve a more natural festuca look.

NUTRITION
100% Fescue can survive happily on low fertiliser regimes and usually requires a maximum of 150kg Nitrogen per ha per year. This can be provided by two applications of fertiliser – one in the spring and one in the autumn – April & September. Slow release and organic fertilisers are recommend.

TYPICAL SEED MIX
45% Slender Creeping Red Fescue
45% Chewings Fescue
10% Hard Fescue

Inturf Classic is generally suitable for most applications. We do also have our RTF turf a durable and low maintenance turf and our Masters turf which is best suited for golf courses. We recommend discussing your specific needs with us for tailored advice.

For guidance on turf quantity, please provide us with the dimensions of the area you wish to turf, and we can assist in calculating your requirements.

Turf should ideally be laid as soon as possible after delivery, especially during the summer months (April to September), to ensure optimal freshness and health. If turf is left rolled up in the heat it can sustain turf heating.

Immediately after installation, turf should be watered thoroughly, both in the morning and evening, for approximately one hour each time, for a period of 28 days unless there is significant rainfall. Read our blog on ‘Watering newly laid turf’ for more information.

It is recommended to lay the turf as soon as it is delivered, particularly during warmer months, to prevent drying out and ensure successful establishment.

We supply Melcourt blended loam topsoil which is fully compliant with British Standard 3882:2015 ‘Multipurpose Grade’. It’s carefully manufactured, high-quality soil, consisting of sandy loam and organic matter.

We have two bark products available both supplied by Melcourt, a leading supplier of peat-free compost, mulches and soil improvers. Our Playbark is most suited for play areas where you need a safe, durable and natural bark option. The Ornamental Bark Mulch is more of a decorative bark for gardens, flower beds, pathways and car park borders to give a few examples.
