Playbark is a high quality, pine bark based loose impact absorbing surface (LIAS) designed to provide a safe and durable base for children’s play areas. Widely recognised as the UK’s leading LIAS solution for over 30 years, it is suitable for all types of playground equipment, including climbing frames, slides, and space nets.
Ideal for areas used by children up to 6 years old, Playbark combines exceptional performance with an attractive reddish-brown finish that enhances the overall appearance of any play environment. We have the Playbark available in 600L bulk bags and can provide delivery.
Playbark delivers a host of benefits that make it the go to choice for playground surfaces. The nominal particle size (10–40mm) ensures effective cushioning, while its free draining nature prevents waterlogging, enabling year-round use regardless of weather conditions. The bark is virtually dust-free and clean to play on, making it ideal for busy playgrounds where safety and hygiene are paramount. Its durability ensures it remains effective for 3 to 5 years plus, and it is highly resistant to wind erosion and frost damage.
Certified to meet BS EN 1176 standards, Playbark offers critical fall height protection at varying depths, giving parents and operators peace of mind that children are playing on a safe surface. Furthermore, it has been tested to confirm high fire resistance (BS 4790:1987) and boasts Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification, making it an environmentally responsible choice.
Playbark is also incredibly practical. It is easy to install and maintain, and its loose texture naturally deters animals such as dogs and cats, helping to keep the area free from fouling. Its clean and particulate structure ensures it won’t damage nearby grassed areas or mowing equipment, even if some bark spills over. Additionally, Playbark is cost-effective and versatile, as it can be repurposed at the end of its life as a mulch or soil conditioner.

Turf should ideally be laid as soon as possible after delivery, especially during the summer months (April to September), to ensure optimal freshness and health. If turf is left rolled up in the heat it can sustain turf heating.
Immediately after installation, turf should be watered thoroughly, both in the morning and evening, for approximately one hour each time, for a period of 28 days unless there is significant rainfall. Read our blog on ‘Watering newly laid turf’ for more information.
It is recommended to lay the turf as soon as it is delivered, particularly during warmer months, to prevent drying out and ensure successful establishment.
